Blogging has lead me to do some pretty cool things, meet some really cool people and connect with a whole other world I would otherwise have no idea about.
It has also done wonders for my self-confidence and body confidence. I’ve always considered myself to be a pretty confident person but when it came to taking photos of my daily outfits and plastering them all over the internet, it did take me a few months to get the hang of it and be fully comfortable.
It’s almost that time again. Yep I’m talking about organising your wardrobe time.
Within the next few weeks I’ll put a day aside that shall be consumed with thoroughly going through my wardrobe and getting it back to some sort of level of organisation.
I generally do this twice a year, at the start of Spring/ Summer and at the start of Autumn/ Winter. I am cursed with a teeny tiny wardrobe and a measly chest of drawers so I simply don’t have the space to have my entire wardrobe on show all year round.
I don’t mean to state the obvious here but how effing cold is it in Adelaide this week? I don’t think I’ve ever been this cold and I lived in Ashton (Freezing town in the Adelaide Hills) for 15 years with only an oil heater and a hot water bottle.
I thought we were going to skim over these artic conditions due to the delayed Autumn temperatures of 18/19 degrees that we were seeing….remember those days? Me neither, it’s so cold I’ve forgotten what warm feels like…..Can you tell I’m a bit of a cold weather sooky la la?
You guys, its a blog post on a Saturday! What’s with that? Don’t ask me, any structure we once had around here seems to be shot to sh*t lately, lets just go with it shall we?
Is everyone loving the EOFY sales as much as I am? Each day my inbox is bombarded with emails telling me about all these wonderful sales, its a glorious time in the shopping world my friends, glorious.
I don’t know about you but some of the hardest days to get dressed for are the days when I have no plans and am doing sweet F.A. (fuck all)
You know, the kind of days where going to the supermarket is the most exciting thing that you have planned.
Its easy in summer, a loose flowy dress and you’re donzo, but in winter we need to layer it up a bit to keep us protected from the elements.
Murphy’s law also means that it’ll be on these types of days that I’ll get a phone call for a last minute catch up to go meet a friend for exciting out of house activities…. with 10 minutes warning…
Now If I am slothing around wearing my thread bare trackies, hair not done and makeup-less this is simply not going to happen, not in 10 minutes. Call me vain, I don’t care, I’m still not going.
This is why I like to make an effort to ‘get dressed’ even on my days off, sure sometimes that means leggings, a giant cardi and some slippers but, should I get invited to some sort of fun fest I can be there in a jiffy.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not sitting at home all dolled up waiting for a party, but if I am wearing proper clothes I am less likely to decline said invites or sit and watch 1000 hours of Gossip Girl reruns.
Well well well, look who is finally writing a blog post!
I have taken a few weeks off so let me get you up to speed.
I didn’t actually plan to take some time off of the blog, it just kinda happened, I have been pretty busy with work and my studying and blogging just got thrown to the side lines for a bit, truthfully I have missed it.
In saying that, I do think I may have bitten off more than I can chew, so I may cut back on the blogging for the next few months, until I get back into the swing of things anyway. I’ll try to post at least once or twice a week but aiming for 3 is getting a little much.
I was finding that keeping up with a blogging schedule was becoming a bit of a chore so after a few weeks off I decided the best way forward was to just cut back, quality over quantity styles!
I have watched Namoi grow right from its inception, starting with a few pieces here and there, growing into markets and an online shop and finally to where it is today, a real life bricks and mortar store.
Each time I visit the store there’s one particular style that always catches my eye…. The chiffon Poncho.
I once heard a quote from the fabulous Sarah Jessica Parker….
“You should never spend more on a sweater than you do on your grocery bill”
I was a little surprised to hear that Ms Parker did not follow in Carrie’s footsteps on the matter. In my mind Carrie is a real person strutting around NYC and one day we shall meet and be the best of friends.
Although I was surprised to hear it, I happen to agree with her. Im all for wearing quality and ethically made clothing but sometimes I think (myself included) we need to put our foot down when it comes to spending outside of our means.
In saying that everyone’s ‘grocery bill’ is different. What I spend on clothes may seem like an extravagant amount to some while being peanuts to others.
I make no secret of my love of bohemian dressing, its one of my favourite dressing styles.
Even on some of the more classic clothing items in my wardrobe, I will generally try to add in a touch of boho to the mix, albeit sometimes subtly.
A necklace, a handbag, a pair of shoes…. Something to add a bit of Caitlin.
When Passion Q contacted me to see if I would like to try some of their clothes it took a few seconds to peruse the website before I said a big fat yes.
I chose items that I know would fit into my current lifestyle and work back with pieces I already own, its part of my new shopping mantra…. Nothing is coming into my wardrobe unless I can wear it at least 3 ways and I have the accessories/basics to back it up.
