Someone made a comment to me the other day about how I don’t wear a lot of makeup and it was lovely to see…. I think I nearly fell on the floor laughing.
For you see dear ones, I do indeed wear a tonne of makeup, I’m not ashamed, I love the stuff. In fact my daily routine is probably what most people would do when they head out of a night time… True story.
It may sound like a lot of work but truthfully once you have your routine down it takes no time at all, Im like the flash, its done in a jiffy… and if im running late? I just utilise my travel time wisely, I’ve been known to do the old car/ traffic light application many times.
I remember being a little girl and going over to friends’ houses and playing all the usual games like Barbies, My Little Pony etc, but should you have ever come over to my house I would have sat you down and done your hair and make-up… My mum is a hairdresser so I had access to the good stuff from an early age….
We had the perfect bathroom for it too, the basin area had a chair in front of a giant mirror, you felt like a movie star sitting down to get all primped and prepped ready to go on set. Well I did anyway.
That love of hair and makeup never really died it just grew stronger, and as a result I think I do a pretty good job (If I do say so myself lol). I can say that as I have sure as hell have done my ‘time’ as a tween and teenager, wrong colour foundation, thick black eyeliner that would make Amy Winehouse roll over, GLITTER freaking eye shadow… shudders**
I may wear a lot of the stuff but I have fine-tuned my technique so it looks as natural as possible. I know I’m not fooling anyone, you can tell I’m wearing it but still I try for a more subtle yet not look.
Put it this way, you will not find a single coloured eyeshadow in my extensive makeup collection, just neutrals, it’s my life long search to find the perfect nude base with the right pigment, I must have 30 of them and I’m still looking!
The other item you will find in abundance is lip products. I’m not afraid of a bold lip colour but I do generally leave this to special occasions and for going out. I will sometimes pull it out for day time/work but for the most part I stick with nudes and neutrals. I love it on others but I already look super girly as it is, I find a hot pink lipstick at 9.30am just extenuates that. There nothing wrong with looking super girly but it’s just not my personal style.
I’m the first to admit that I’m super fussy when it comes to my nude lipstick, I can’t wear those darker ‘iced’ nude colours, they totally wash out my skin. I need the perfect mix of peach, beige with a tiny tinge of pink to make me hand over the cashola.
I also try not to spend a fortune, while I will pay the big bucks for things like foundation, lipstick and lip-gloss is something I think you can save a few pennies on. If I love a colour ill buy it, no matter what the brand but generally my lip products are from Priceline and cost under $20.
Without further ado, here’s my round up of the best neutrals going round. Of course depending on your skin and hair colour this is going to differ for everyone. My advice is to go to your chosen shop with your hair and make-up done as you usually would and try them all on… sure it may take you and hour and you have to use the dreaded testers (just put the product on your hand first then lips) but it gets the job done!
All of these items can be found in my lip product collection, they each offer a slightly different shade or finish depending on the occasion, if I am wearing fake tan or what mood I’m in.
Voila! There you have it, all from Priceline, all under $20!
All these products pretty much get used on a weekly basis but at the moment the Kate Moss lipstick, Australis Velourlips and the Lanolips are on high rotation.
What about you, do you have any favourites to add to the list?
