They say change is as good as a holiday, while I’ll admit that getting a new hair cut doesn’t exactly compare to laying on a Beach in Bali the symbolism behind it is still the same.

Sometimes something as simple as a new hairstyle really can give you that extra injection of sass that you might be searching for. I’m not saying a bangin’ new look is going to be the answer to all of life’s problems but something so simple is worth a shot right?

Of course it is.

I knew I needed a sass injection, at the start of the year I made a list of things I wanted to do, try or change in 2017 and in a small way, chopping my hair off and mixing up the colour was almost like a symbolism of new beginnings. (Deep huh)

Nothing wild or crazy, believe me my days of jet black with hot pink are over, but it did need to be enough to make me feel sleek and sassy.

I had been mulling over a mini hair makeover for a while, the ends were looking ratty and I was getting more and more agitated with the upkeep of platinum blonde roots. Another downside of being a platinum blondie that no one likes to talk about is the fact that fake tan and foundation totally stain your hairline…. That doesn’t look weird or anything…

I dealt with it cause sometimes we makes these sacrifices for the things we love but it was really starting to piss me off, so you know what that means don’t you?

It’s time for a new do. If your hair is pissing you off, it’s time to change things up.

All it took was a phone call to my mum (who doubles as my hairdresser) and 3 hours later sleek and sass is exactly what I got.

My roots were darkened and bought closer to my natural colour, I also said ta-ta to about 2 inches off my ratty ends. The change is subtle yet enough to make a massive difference.

I do realise that not everyone has the convenience of a hairdresser mother (suckers), so implementing your new change may require some pre-planning as your hairdresser will probably need a bit of a heads up that you want to try something new so they can allocate you more time.

A photo of style inspiration can also be really useful. Just keep in mind that when you look at a photo of a hairstyle sometimes you are subconsciously looking at the whole package, not just the person’s hair. If it is a photo of a celebrity chances are they have had professional make up done and a team of stylists making sure each and every tress is exactly in place. Your hair may not turn out exactly like the photo.

Use a picture as inspiration but keep in mind of the persons colouring, lighting, possible photo shopping and the entourage of hairdressers standing by that I guarantee you will not be there to help you style it come 8am Monday morning.

Whatever your motivation, be it a change of lifestyle, trends coming/ going or just plain boredom a simple tweak to your tresses really can make all the difference and put a much needed spring back in your step.

And what better time than the start of a new year?

Oh I suppose you would like to see this black and pink hair photo now? Well that’s too bad, I cant seem to find one (darn) but I did find this one of me circa 2005 with brown hair… I don’t think Ill be going there again…

What about you, are you thinking of a hair change or do you prefer to stay with your signature look?

  • It looks fab. I like my current ashy blonde situation but I’m going to speak to my hairdresser next time about blurring the roots a little more so I don’t get the obvious strip.

  • Jenni from styling curvy

I’m diggin your new do Caitlyn, I think you can go a little shorter though ☺☺

  • happychappy

Love the new hair, it’s a softer look, REALLY love the dark too, very dramatic

    • Thanks Happy! The dark was fun but I don’t think I’ll be going back soon, my regrowth was much lighter than the brown colour and it looked plain weird inbetween appointments!
